Tracking Manager automatically generates an Element Name and Code based on the reporting data/gradebook data you are pulling in. If you pull in "Effort 1" from a Report Manager template, it will be abbreviated to "Eff AD T1/24". "AD" being the subject code. The problem here is if you collect more than 1 of this grading type within a term, e.g., "Effort 2" collected during Term 1 will also end up with "Eff AD T1/24" as its automatic generated Element Code in Tracking Manager. This then requires staff to change element codes on every column for every subject they pull into Tracking Manager if they want to compare "Effort 1" to "Effort 2" - both will be automatically coded "Eff AD T1/24" so difficult to distinguish.
We are currently exploring naming our efforts in Reports Manager template as "EF1" and "EF2", and "AT1" and "AT2" to get around the above issue. We unfortunately have 3 year groups that receive 2 effort and attainments within the same term so problem described above becomes an issue if we don't give the grade a specific (short) name in Report Manager for easier use in Tracking Manager.
If there was someway to update the logic behind the auto generation of Element Code in Tracking Manager, so it wasn't restricted to the first 3 characters for the grading (e.g., "Eff") that would be helpful as this automatic Element Code generation currently, for us, isn't leading to unique Element Codes.
